SRJC Dance Program Mission Statement:
The Dance Program at Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) is dedicated to transforming lives through the art of dance, in alignment with the mission of the California Community Colleges and 21st-century educational practices. The program promotes dance as a powerful form of communication, artistic expression, and cultural exchange while fostering social responsibility, innovation, and cultural awareness. Our mission is to provide an inclusive, welcoming, and diverse learning environment where students of all levels and abilities are empowered to thrive.
Our mission is to educate and empower students as they explore dance as an academic discipline, that encompasses dance as a performing art as well as a means to cultivating mind/body somatic connections. By offering a diverse and contemporary curriculum, we prepare students for associate degrees, certificates, transfer opportunities, and workforce readiness in the dance and creative arts industries. Our program prioritizes holistic learning, student wellness, and the cultivation of a lifelong passion for dance.
The Dance Mission includes the following objectives:
1. Creating an environment in which the general student population may experience dance as a means to enhance physical fitness and wellness; understand and appreciate other cultures and periods of history; earn aesthetics; and interact cooperatively with people of ages, abilities, and cultural/ethnic backgrounds.
2. Preparing dance students to transfer as dance majors to public state and private colleges and universities.
3. Providing preparation for careers in dance including the areas of choreography, dance performance and dance instruction.
4. Maintaining diversity of instruction and course offerings.
